McKenzie Smith is currently a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at Long Island University-Post. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Stony Brook University and is continuing to build on her clinical foundation through advanced training in both psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approaches.
McKenzie has gained experience working with children, adolescents, and adults presenting with a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, disruptive behavior disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, and bipolar disorder. Her clinical work spans diverse settings such as outpatient clinics, residential programs, and inpatient psychiatric units.
Most recently, she completed a practicum at an outpatient clinic, where she provided individual therapy to children and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and interpersonal challenges, as well as worked with individuals on the autism spectrum disorder. In her clinical work in these settings, she utilized evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and brief psychodynamic therapy. She also conducted and interpreted comprehensive neuropsychological assessments for children and adolescents, further refining her assessment skills.
McKenzie is deeply committed to providing compassionate, client-centered care. She strives to create a safe, warm, and collaborative therapeutic environment that supports each individual’s growth and healing. With a strong interest in working with underserved populations and individuals with serious mental illness, McKenzie aims to expand access to high-quality mental health care as she continues her professional journey.
