Clinical Parent Training Groups (Virtual)
Below are a series of virtual parent training groups being run by our child psychologists. These are excellent options for parents looking for a short-term, convenient, and cost-effective solution to help their child with Anxiety, ADHD and/or Disruptive Behavior (e.g., Oppositional Defiant Disorder).
1. Parenting Skills for Children (Ages 3-10) with Behavioral Difficulties (e.g, ODD)
Each session will utilize a combination of instruction and role-play to teach a variety of parenting skills aimed at improving your child’s behavior. There will also be time each week dedicated to being able to share and interact with other parents regarding the shared experience of raising a child and the challenges that it presents.

Dates/times: 6 weeks, one-hour per week (virtually)
General goals/topics covered each week:
- Psychoeducation on childhood behavior problems
- Improving your child’s behavior through the use of positive attention and effective discipline strategies
- Addressing aggressive behaviors
- Learning to play with your child in a way that provides a therapeutic effect and leads to better behavior
- Improving your child’s behavior at school
Targeted issues include: Non-compliance, aggression, behavioral difficulties at school, negative attention-seeking behaviors (e.g. whining, tantrumming)
Learning objectives for attendees:
- Develop concrete parenting skills that can be used to improve your child’s behavior and listening skills.
- Learn how to play with your child in a way that increases their self-esteem; decreases anxiety, anger or frustration; improves the parent-child bond; and increases positive behavior.
- Learn concrete strategies for dealing with oppositional and aggressive behavior.
- Learn ways to collaborate with teachers in improving your child’s behavior at school.
Early Bird Fee is $900 per parent or $1200 for both parents for all 6 groups. Standard Fee is $1200 per parent or $1500 for both parents for all 6 groups. To sign up, please complete this form.
The fee for the intake is $300-500, paid upfront. It is 45-60 minutes with the parent(s), and may include an observation of the child at the clinician’s discretion. The purpose of the intake is to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the behaviors of the child, identify the challenges and goals of the parent(s) for the group, and assess the parent-child relationship. The intake can provide a diagnosis for qualified parents to use for out-of-network reimbursement from insurance for the group fee.

2. Parenting Skills for Children (Ages 5-14) with ADHD
This group will aim to help parents understand ADHD and how it impacts their child’s functioning at home, in school, and with peers. Parents will learn specific skills and concrete tools to improve the quality of the parent/child relationship and their child’s functioning and behavior at home. Each session will focus on learning a specific skill that will be reinforced through practice during the session.

- Learning better ways of responding to situations
- Improving self-esteem
- Learning strategies to help your child with executive functioning difficulties
Targeted issues include: ADHD, executive functioning skills, and behavioral difficulties

- Understand and communicate better with your child
- Create a calmer family dynamic that increases positive behavior
- Improve your self-confidence as a parent and your child’s self-confidence
- Create a supportive environment to increase your child’s organizational and time-management skills

3. Parenting Skills for Children (Ages 3-17) with Anxiety
This is a parent-based treatment group for children with anxiety, OCD, and related problems. The instruction focuses on changes the parents can make to their own behavior to better support their child. Each session will utilize a combination of techniques from evidence-based programs such as Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Each group will include instruction and demonstration, as well as dedicated time to interact with other parents.

General goals/topics covered:
- Learn specific skills and tools to help your child overcome anxiety
- Learn how to respond more supportively to your anxious child
- Learn how decrease family accommodations to the child’s symptoms
Targeted issues include: Separation anxiety, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, fears and phobias, panic disorder, Agoraphobia, selective mutism, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Learning Objectives:
- Develop a good understanding of childhood anxiety
- Learn concrete parenting skills that can be used to manage your child’s anxiety
- Improve your self-confidence as a parent

More details for all groups:
Group fees and the intake fee are to be paid for all the weeks upfront. You cannot pay after the group is over or week to week. Since this is a closed group with only 8-10 parents per group, there are no make-ups, refunds or cancellations. We can provide a receipt for parents to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. The CPT code for group parent training is 90849-95. The parent attending the group must be the identified patient with a diagnosis for the receipt, which can be covered further during intake; we cannot use a child’s diagnosis. This group is only available for parents residing in NY, NJ, CT, PA, and FL where our psychologists are licensed.
