McKenzie Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology from Stony Brook University. She is currently pursuing her PsyD in Clinical Psychology at Long Island University - Post, where she continues to refine her knowledge and skills in the evaluation and treatment of various psychological conditions using evidence-based therapeutic modalities from both the cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic orientations.
Through her academic and vocational experiences, McKenzie has worked with children, adolescents, and adults presenting with concerns including anxiety, depression, disruptive behavior disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, and bipolar disorder. Her work has spanned diverse treatment settings such as outpatient clinics, residential programs, and inpatient psychiatric units. Most recently, McKenzie completed a practicum at a low-cost outpatient clinic, where she provided therapeutic services to children and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and interpersonal difficulties. She utilized evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and brief psychodynamic therapy. In addition, she further developed her skills in conducting and interpreting comprehensive neuropsychological assessments for children and adolescents.
McKenzie is passionate about extending compassion, empathy, and therapeutic care to those who do not readily receive it. In addition to further developing her clinical skills in both neuropsychological assessment and therapeutic treatment, McKenzie is dedicated to meeting individuals where they are and providing a safe, warm, and reliable environment to facilitate growth and healing. After she completes her clinical training, McKenzie plans to help expand the reach of quality therapeutic services by working with traditionally underserved populations and individuals with serious mental illness.
