Many children face challenges when it comes to managing their executive functions, such as organization, time management, or impulse control. Our tailored support group offers a dynamic and supportive environment where children can learn and grow their executive functioning skills together.
Group Goals:
- Social Learning: Group therapy provides a platform for children to observe and learn from their peers. Through interaction and observation, they can gain insight into different strategies and perspectives for managing executive functions.
- Peer Support: Being part of a group allows children to share their experiences and challenges with others who may be facing similar difficulties. This sense of camaraderie fosters empathy, understanding, and peer support, which can be invaluable in the learning process.
- Skill Generalization: Group therapy sessions offer opportunities for children to practice newly acquired skills in real-life situations. They can receive feedback from both peers and therapists, which helps reinforce learning and promotes skill generalization beyond the therapy setting.
- Building Self-Esteem: Working alongside peers who share similar struggles can boost children's confidence and self-esteem. As they experience success and support within the group, they develop a sense of competence and empowerment in managing their executive functions.
- Social Skills Development: In addition to targeting executive functioning skills, group therapy naturally facilitates the development of social skills such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution. These skills are essential for navigating various social interactions and settings.
- Calmer Home Environment: Improved time management skills and organization can help improve the overall parent-child relationship, communication among siblings, and create a calmer family environment overall.
Weekly Executive Functioning Skill Building:
Throughout the program, we will provide concrete tools and skill building to tackle executive functioning skill deficits, including:

- Impulse Control: Strategies for regulating impulses and making thoughtful decisions will be explored, empowering children to exercise greater self-control in various situations.
- Problem-Solving: Group activities and discussions will encourage children to identify problems, brainstorm solutions, and implement effective problem-solving strategies.
- Self-Awareness: Children will gain insight into their own strengths, weaknesses, and areas for growth, fostering greater self-awareness and self-reflection.

Executive functioning skill deficits are unlikely to significantly improve on their own, without skill building and support. Additionally, the sooner children receive such coaching, the easier it can be to change the behavior. Our group is here to support your child's journey towards improved executive functioning skills.
