
Mahlek Abdou is a bilingual school psychology doctoral candidate at St. John’s University. Mahlek specializes in the assessment and intervention of diverse student populations and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Hunter College. His training includes psychoeducational assessment, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, and consultation within clinical and school environments.
Mahlek’s extensive experience in school psychology includes externships at Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School and Howard B. Mattlin Middle School. During these roles, he has provided individual and group counseling, conducted psychoeducational assessments, and collaborated with educators to create effective intervention strategies. As a Student Clinician at St. John’s Center for Psychological Services, Mahlek has administered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to children and adolescents, working with their families to set treatment goals and track progress. His experience also encompasses conducting comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, synthesizing diagnostic reports, and providing feedback sessions to inform intervention planning.
In addition to his school psychology work, Mahlek has served as a 1:1 Psychosocial Aide at The Quad Preparatory School, supporting neurodiverse students in building their social-emotional skills. He also contributed as an Assistant Language Teacher in Japan through the JET Program, where he developed language-learning materials and promoted cross-cultural understanding.
