
Mahlek Abdou is a bilingual school psychology doctoral candidate at St. John’s University with specialized training in assessing and supporting diverse student populations. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Hunter College and has extensive experience in psychoeducational assessment, evidence-based interventions, and consultation across both school and clinical settings.
Mahlek has worked in a variety of environments, including Plainview–Old Bethpage Middle School, Howard B. Mattlin Middle School, and St. John’s Center for Psychological Services. In these roles, he has provided individual and group counseling, conducted comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations, delivered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to children and adolescents, and collaborated closely with families and educators to create practical, effective intervention plans.
In addition to his work in school psychology, Mahlek has supported neurodiverse students as a 1:1 Psychosocial Aide at The Quad Preparatory School, helping children build confidence and social-emotional skills. He also spent time in Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher with the JET Program, where he created engaging learning materials and fostered cross-cultural understanding. Mahlek is passionate about providing compassionate, culturally responsive care and empowering families to help their children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
