A significant number of American students do not reach an expected level of reading proficiency. This shortfall can harm their academic advancement, social and emotional health, and increase the likelihood of behavioral issues. These challenges tend to compound over time for the learner. Unfortunately, these reading struggles are more prevalent among historically marginalized communities. This situation has sparked debates about the efficacy of teaching methods in the American education system, especially in reading, leading to discussions about reform through the lens of the Science of Reading. The purpose of this webinar is to examine the contributions of the science of reading and science of behavior to our knowledge regarding effective reading instruction and the development of reading repertoires.
Objectives:
-Learn about national trends, inequities, and systemic challenges related to reading proficiency
-Contributions of the science of learning to reading instruction
-Implications and recommendations for pre-service training of teachers and behavior analysts and policy challenges.
