
Dr. Margaret Areizaga is a New York State licensed psychologist (#021636) who received her B.A. in Psychology from Mercy College and her M.A. in Psychology in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She went on to earn her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University. Dr. Areizaga is a certified Therapist in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and a Within Agency Trainer in PCIT. She is also trained in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE).
She has extensive experience training, supervising, and consulting with clinical psychology trainees, licensed psychologists, and social workers in the implementation of evidence-based treatments, including PCIT. Dr. Areizaga is also skilled in providing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), parent management training (PMT), and exposure and response prevention (ERP), tailoring interventions to meet the unique needs of her clients.
Specializing in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents, Dr. Areizaga has extensive expertise in diagnosing and treating anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, selective mutism, oppositional defiant disorder, and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. She also treats adults, particularly those seeking support for psychological distress, such as anxiety, executive functioning difficulties, struggles managing stress, and parenting-related challenges that impact relationships, work, school, health, sleep, or family functioning. Dr. Areizaga uses evidence-based approaches to help clients achieve their goals and improve overall well-being. Dr. Areizaga has delivered individual and group therapy, as well as parent and teacher training, across diverse settings, including outpatient clinics, private practices, and both public and private schools in New York and New Jersey.
