For professional counselors, psychotherapists, social workers and coaches, you can add this manualized treatment to your service offerings for children with anxiety
Description of webinar:
Rates of child and adolescent anxiety have increased markedly over the past decade (Haidt & Twenge, 2023). Exposure-based cognitive-behavioral therapy is the gold standard in the treatment of anxious children (Hofmann et al., 2012). However, many clinicians refrain from using exposure due to concerns about its safety, effectiveness, and ethics (Deacon et al., 2013; Whiteside et al., 2016). Dr. Camilo Ortiz has developed and preliminarily tested a novel treatment approach for child anxiety composed of independence activities (IAs), which are child-directed, fun, unstructured, developmentally challenging tasks that are performed without any help from parents (Ortiz & Fastman, 2024). He and Laken Krohn, BCBA, LBA will delve into the rationale for the treatment and how to implement Indepence Therapy using both CBT and ABA principles.
Objectives, Attendees will be able to:
1. Explain the theoretical rationale for Independence Focused Therapy
2. Review the initial data supporting the use of Independence Focused Therapy
3. Summarize the key treatment components of Independence Focused Therapy
4. Review methods of administration utilizing both cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles
