What is the Teens and Screens Group?

The Teens and Screens: Social Media & Wellbeing Group is a specialized program designed to help adolescents navigate the complex relationship between social media, mental health, and overall wellbeing.
This group creates a supportive environment where participants can explore their experiences and develop coping skills for healthier social media use.
Who can benefit from the Teens and Screens Group?
Our Teens and Screens group is tailored for adolescents ages 13-18. It is specifically designed for participants who struggle with:
- Balancing screentime and social media use with offline daily activities
- Limiting social media use around friends and family
- Managing negative feelings like anxiety, depression, and/or body image issues related to online interactions
- Regulating emotions both online and offline
What are the components of the Teens and Screens Group?
The program includes education and skill building regarding the following topics:
- Overview of Social Media and Mental Health
- Values Clarification
- The Brain and Body on Social Media
- Cognitive Restructuring
- Behavioral Activation
- Safety on Social Media

What are the goals of the Teens and Screens Group?
Participants aim to:
- Learn more about relationships between social media and mental health
- Identify personal values and how well they align with social media use
- Have a safe space to discuss experiences on social media with peers
- Amplify positive effects of social media on mood and wellbeing
- Learn coping skills for managing negative feelings related to social media use

Groups run based on interest. If you're interested in one of our groups, please contact us. For skill building and support related to the benefits of this group, MPG can also create a tailored treatment plan based on individual service(s) or other types of support if there is not a group actively running at the time.
