Matthew Diamond, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker in New York and Connecticut. He earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology from Clark University and his Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. He completed postgraduate clinical training at NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
Matthew works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families presenting with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship difficulties, academic and career stress, trauma related symptoms, self harm, anger management, and social challenges. He provides both short term, solution focused treatment and longer term therapy, depending on each client’s needs and goals.
His treatment approach integrates evidence based and insight oriented modalities. Matthew utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, and Motivational Interviewing to help clients develop practical, sustainable coping strategies in areas such as emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. He also incorporates insight oriented therapy to support deeper understanding and lasting change. In addition to therapy, Matthew conducts assessments and develops individualized treatment plans tailored to each client.
Matthew aims to create a collaborative, compassionate, and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences and building resilience. He emphasizes identifying and using each client’s strengths throughout treatment and works closely with individuals and families to support meaningful, sustainable progress.
His work is grounded in a biopsychosocial framework, considering the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence functioning. Through a validating and empathic approach, Matthew strives to provide high quality care that promotes growth, improved functioning, and overall well being.
