The goal of these groups is to provide a therapeutic format for students who are transitioning from elementary school to middle school and middle school to high school. This is a psychoeducational support group.
Middle School Transitions Group: Grade 5-6

This group is aimed to prepare children for the social/emotional, relationship and organizational changes that accompany the transition to middle school. Middle schoolers experience an increasing dependence on peers to find self worth. They detach from family and develop their own independence and identity. They begin to spend more time with friends without parents around. They also have to manage increasing academic demands, which can be anxiety provoking. Skills in this group will include: self-esteem building, executive functioning, communication and decision making skills.
High School Transitions Group: Grade 9
This group is aimed to prepare teenagers for the vast and challenging changes that come with transitioning from middle school to high school. This can be one of the most difficult times in a teen’s life, and can be very confusing. High schoolers are more vulnerable to peer pressure as they become fully immersed with friends. They begin to spend most of their time with peers and often experiment with substances and physical intimacy. Skills in this group will include: self-esteem building, executive functioning, communication and decision making skills.
