Dr. Andrew Lima is a clinical psychology postdoctoral fellow at Manhattan Psychology Group, where he works with children, adolescents and families presenting with issues pertaining to a host of behavioral and emotional difficulties. Dr. Lima holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a minor in psychology from Berklee College of Music, as well as a post-baccalaureate in pre-medical studies from La Salle University. Dr. Lima went on to complete a Masters and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Albizu University (an APA accredited program) with a concentration in Health Psychology.
Dr. Lima utilizes an integrated approach based on the particular needs of each individual including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), parent management training (PMT), family therapy, solution focused, relaxation training, lifestyle modification, and biofeedback training. Areas of expertise include anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, school refusal, children with chronic medical conditions, chronic pain (including fibromyalgia, functional abdominal pain, migraines, and pain secondary to cancer), obesity, conversion disorder, psychogenic seizures, ADHD, and consulting with primary care physicians on psychopharmacology. Dr. Lima also enjoys working with medically complex children struggling with issues such as adherence to medications, adjusting to a long term diagnosis such as cancer or diabetes, and inhabiting the ‘sick role’ within a family system.
During graduate school, Dr. Lima completed a year long clinical rotation at Miami Children’s Hospital focusing on inpatient consultation liaison psychology with medically and psychiatrically complex children. Dr. Lima then completed a year-long placement at The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine with an emphasis on neuropsychological testing. Dr. Lima also completed an APA accredited internship at Eastern Virginia Medical School/ Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, with an emphasis on inpatient pediatric health psychology, neuropsychological evaluation, and integrated primary care. While on internship, Dr. Lima also gained a significant amount of experience and mentorship working with pediatric pain and palliative care patients alongside Ami Mehta, MD, Virginia’s only pediatric pain and palliative care physician. He is currently providing telehealth services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
