This workshop is tailored specifically for mental health clinicians, behavior analysts, educators and those wanting to expand their skillset. It will provide an in-depth exploration of Pathological Demand Avoidance, a complex behavioral profile often seen in individuals on the autism spectrum. PDA is characterized by an extreme avoidance of everyday demands and significant anxiety around perceived loss of control. Dr. Kornblum will share the latest research, clinical insights, and practical strategies for effectively supporting individuals with PDA in professional environments. Through case studies and evidence-based interventions, participants will learn how to create tailored support plans that address the unique challenges faced by those with PDA.
Attendees will:
- Gain a nuanced understanding of Pathological Demand Avoidance, including its definition, key characteristics, and how it differs from other autism spectrum conditions
- Recognize the behavioral patterns associated with PDA and their implications for educational and therapeutic practices
- Explore practical, evidence-based interventions and strategies that can be integrated into professional practice to better support individuals with PDA
